A Look at Last Year's Science Fair

Our group of Illini alums had a great time with the kids at Goudy Elementary School judging their science fair. The students enjoyed sharing all the details of their projects (all 64 of them!) and spending time talking to new people. We interviewed the students regarding their use of scientific thought, methods, visual appearance and creativity. You could tell the students were very encouraged by the presence of professionals from organizations throughout the city and the Goudy School community were great hosts. In true Champaign-Urbana fashion- Jimmy John's was served for lunch!

Reader's Friday a Hit!

Kids love when we read to them- as you can see! We read to them every other month, and our next date is 2/19, so let us know if you'd like to come out: volunteer@chicagoillini.org

More on the Partnership:

Alumni for Public Schools is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and supports volunteer partnerships between the Chicago chapters of college and university alumni associations and individual Chicago Public Schools.

The Chicago Illini Club has been lucky to be paired up with Goudy Elementary School, which is an extremely diverse yet disadvantaged school. Read their stats HERE. Throughout the rest of 2009-2010 academic school year, we intend to volunteer at different events that help our members truly make a difference.

Goudy is located on the north side of Chicago, and is a easy 28 minute El ride from the downtown loop area. Street parking is available as well. You can click below for directions or a larger map:

We are very excited about this partnership! We understand that volunteering during the workday might be difficult, but some firms offer hours off for volunteer work if you ask! If you work at one of these firms and need more information about the program that you cannot find on APS's website, please let us know.

If you'd like to always be informed about these opportunities, sign up here.
